| Waterloo Jahr: 1970 Klassifikation: Action Regisseur: - Sergei Bondartschuk Schauspieler/Schauspielerinnen: - Rod Steiger - Orson Welles - Christopher Plummer Die beste filmische Umsetzung! Soweit man die Schlachten der Napoleonischen Zeit überhaupt auf Film bannen kann, ist Waterloo der dichteste, der beste Film aller Zeiten. Dazu kommt ein fulminater Rod Steiger als Napoleon, der mehr als alle anderen Napoleon-Darsteller zusammengenommen, diesem genialen Menschen Charakter und glaubwürdigen Ausdruck verleiht. Waterloo ist auch eines der letzten Werke der Zeit der großen historischen Monumentalfilme wie Cesar und Kleopatra, Spartakus usw. Die neue ZDF-Serie ist dagegen ein harmloses Kostümspektakel, daß nach der letzten Einstellung nur noch zu einem Gedanken anregt: "und was läuft noch heute Abend!?" Highly Charged recreation of Waterloo battle At the time this film came out, it was criticised heavily for costing so much 11 Million dollars (sort of a laugh by today's standards!!). People trashed the film, but I am sorry, I think every penny was well spent. The film, is nearly flooring by the sheer scope of recreating the confrontation at Waterloo. Rod Stieger is excellent as Bonie and Christopher Plummer perfect as 'the boy with the hooky nose' Wellington. I like liked how DDL filmed mental reflections of Bonaparte and Wellington - often making it appear as they were on opposite sides of a window. Thought he capture the 'terrible beauty of warfare' in the charge of the Scots' Graus. There is humour with the Enniskillin, excellent acting with Ian Ogilvy as De Lancey, Jack Hawkins, Dan O'Hearily and Virginia McKenna. A faithful retelling of the battle that stands as one of the great military films,and even captures the near carnival atmostphere of surrounding the period leading up to the battle. Bei dem ehemaligen Verkaufspreis, dem Erscheinungsdatum der DVD und dem Genre war ich aber zuversichtlich. Die DVD in Händen mußte ich aber feststellen: >> Deutsch in Mono !!! << (ja, ich dachte das gibt es nur bei DVD's mit Greta Garbo und Humphrey Bogart)Englisch in 4 Kanal. Das war mir ein bißchen zu heiß und ich habe die DVD ungeöffnet zurück geschickt. Schade, warum tut man so etwas dem Medium DVD an?
